Some Sunny Night will be performed with professional soloists, chorus, dancers and a full orchestra, coming from Belgium, Norway , USA and China, in addition to European guest –artists, special guests and politicians. UNESCO is also supporting this event, and China Central Television will cover the performance (800 million potential viewers) in addition to Norwegian TV and other medias in Belgium and Europe.

The story:

Some Sunny Night is an opera-musical composed by Thomas Stanghelle (29), based on a true story of the “Marathon-heros” Ketil Moe (1966-99)  handicapped Mark Wang from China, their inspirator Grete Waitz, the “marathon-queen” and Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway. Ketil Moe suffered from the serious lung-disease Cystic Fibrosis, but managed to complete 14 New York Marathons with help from 9-times-winner Grete Waitz, his last two with both of his lungs transplanted, before he passed away at the age of 32. Mark Wang survived an aircrash in the Yellow River at the age of twelve, and was paralyzed in both of his legs due to his spinal cord injury. After five years of rehabilitation he was invited by the Norwegian Queen Sonja to study in Norway. Together Ketil and Mark made the impossible possible by opening the first Beijing Marathon also for handicapped people in 1998. “Make the impossible possible” is also the theme of the opera-musical.

Mark Wang is now a role-model for China’s 80 million handicapped people.

History of Some Sunny Night:

Some Sunny Night was last year performed at The Great Hall of the People, Beijing, featuring China National Opera, supported by UNESCO, and in Mark Wang’s hometown.

2004 it was performed at the Royal 50-years anniversary of Sunnas Rehabilitation Hospital, Norway, featuring Norwegian Crown-Princess Mette-Marit. It was also performed in several other cities in Norway. This year Some Sunny Night recently had its successful US-premiere in Ohio and New York City in September.  The performance is also invited for the Special Olympics/Paralympics in Beijing 2008.
